One assignment down & second almost completed. This morning I attempted the “sweetie, can you please watch the kids today while I do my assignment? Thanks.”
Clearly I needed to be more specific. “Watch the kids” generally means more than “stand at the sink drinking coffee while they throw wooden trains at each others heads & scream really loudly”. Nor does me screaming at them to shut up & to play nice mean that I am quite happy handling the situation, thank you very much.
So after they had cupcakes for lunch, we all trouped off to movies to see Ice Age 2. We, and by “we” I mean, well, you know who I mean, learnt a few things today. Five year old boys can eat a large popcorn entirely on their own. A nearly 3 year old boy will quite likely lose an arm if he attempts to help himself to any. When a nearly 3 year old boy says he needs to do a wee (at the top of his voice) he NEEDS TO DO A WEE!!!!
Yes, I’m well aware that he has been toilet trained for quite a couple of months and we haven’t had any “accidents” for such a long time. He’s THREE – surely that tells you something????!!!!
MonkeyBoy has also almost grasped this concept that the world does not revolve around him. Almost got it, but not quite. He could not understand why they wouldn’t pause the movie so he could go to the toilet. So he crossed his legs & jiggled a lot. I am still struggling to explain this to him. This is not easy when clearly the world does actually revolve around him.
(By the way, a five year old boy can also consume a large bowl of cheesey-peasy-macaroni immediately upon returning home from movies, then finish of his brother’s large, almost untouched bowl.)
My head hurts.
