I probably could have added this to my list of FAQs I get about my Great (in)SANE Inspired Adventure, but, well, clearly I didn’t.
“How do you do it?” … then there are various contexts in which this question is posed.
How do I manage to fit in the training with everything else going on in my life?
How do I live with abandoning my children like I’m doing?
How do I find the motivation to do the training?
Aside from it being an Adventure of a Lifetime (my adventure and my lifetime, but I’ll come back to that, with answers to some other questions, another time) and something I am so freaking excited about, I find that having something to look forward to, a goal of sorts, something I want to do / achieve helps.
It gives me something to aim for, and kind of makes it difficult to come up with excuses … and given this advenutre is linked to a charity, SANE Australia, then, well, I would be seriously letting them down if I didn’t carry on with what I essentially promised to do.
Which is why I think this idea is a pretty cool one; because, and there’s been a lot of research into this, people basically suck at sticking to their promises without some sort of somethign at stake. Something like their cold hard cash, their ego, their integrity.
It is more so when those promises revolve around things like exercice or activity goals, weight loss / fat loss, or things that are likely to be of benefit to their health, like giving up smoking, drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, and partaking in 20 hour Netflix binges.
Oh, yeah … ah ha ha, the idea … the idea is Promise or Pay, which is pretty much as the title explains.
- Promise to do / stop doing something (exercise daily / stop smoking for example)
- Put your money where your mouth is and basically promise to donate a specified amount to a charity of your choice if you break that promise
- Get your family and friends behind you to support the same charity, so you have more at stake …
Maybe it’ll work for you, too.
I can’t hurt, right?
My suggestion … and the answer to the question I probably get asked the most … just jump in and do it, yeah?
